Installation

  1. Install a userscript manager:

  2. Build the script:

    npm install
npm run build

  3. Install the generated script from dist/youtube-ad-skipper.user.js

Usage

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Ctrl+Shift+A - Open/close settings panel
  • Ctrl+Shift+S - Toggle statistics display

Settings

Access the settings panel using Ctrl+Shift+A or wait for the script to initialize. Available options:

  • Auto-unmute after ads - Automatically restore audio after ads
  • Speed up ads (16x) - Fast-forward through ads (experimental)
  • Show statistics - Display ad blocking statistics
  • Show notifications - Show toast notifications when ads are skipped
  • Debug mode - Enable console logging for troubleshooting

How It Works

  1. CSS Ad Blocking - Injects styles to hide ad elements
  2. Video Ad Detection - Monitors video player for ad indicators
  3. Automatic Skipping - Clicks skip buttons or forces video to end
  4. State Management - Saves and restores video state (volume, mute)
  5. Popup Blocking - Removes premium upgrade popups

  • ✅ YouTube (www.youtube.com)
  • ✅ YouTube Mobile (m.youtube.com)
  • ✅ YouTube Music (music.youtube.com)
  • ❌ YouTube Studio (excluded)

Troubleshooting

If ads are not being skipped:

  1. Enable Debug mode in settings
  2. Open browser console (F12)
  3. Look for [Ad Skipper] log messages
  4. Check if video element is detected
  5. Verify ad detection indicators

Known Limitations

  • Some ads may take 1-2 seconds to skip due to cooldown mechanism
  • Speed up ads feature may not work on all ad types
  • YouTube may update their ad system, requiring script updates
